Museum Lighting

Precious pieces of art should be illuminated with a type of light that does not damage the object, but at the same time will showcase the exhibit in the best way possible. As a result, the demands on light and beam quality in the museum segment are very high. With the high quality lighting solutions of Invisua it is now possible to add another dimension to museum lighting: tunable or dynamic lighting.

Choose the exact lux level

There are many ways how museums can benefit from the possibilities of tunable lighting solutions. The most straightforward application is the possibility to dim the light to realize the exact required lux level for the object on display. Using the wireless controls of the Invisua Masterspot fixtures, this is an easy task. No ladders are required, and special tracks or control systems are not needed.

Set the optimal color temperature

A second benefit of using tunable lighting for museum applications is the ability to choose the optimal color temperature (CCT) for the museum objects. Slightly warmer CCT’s will enhance red/yellow/orange colors, whereas cooler CCT’s will enhance blue colors and will make white colors look more crisp. Especially with the faster changing expositions nowadays, this feature brings out a unique possibility to optimize the lighting per exposition or even per object.

Matching natural light

More and more museums are making use of natural daylight as base lighting for their expositions. Often, adjustable blinds are used to regulate the amount of incoming daylight and to prevent direct sunlight from entering the space. Daylight does however not have a constant CCT during the day. The Invisua Lighting solutions offer the unique possibility to exactly match the color of the natural light throughout the day, creating a nice uniform visual experience. Next to that, the intensity of the artificial lighting can be tuned during the day, to make sure overall lighting levels are exactly as required, even with quickly changing natural lighting levels.

Dynamic museum lighting

The next trend in turning museums into more (visual) experiences, is the use of dynamic light, possibly combined with the use of colored light. As the Invisua Masterspot is using RGBW LED technology to create the various white tones, also colored light can be selected for adding extra drama to an exposition. Together with the show creation possibilities of the Invisua Create web-app, dynamic visual experiences can be created with a flick of your finger. Creating inspiring expositions was never this easy!
